Oxymoron masquerading as an enigma: “…Smart politicians on both sides of the aisle in New York and New Jersey should be interested in fixing this mess.”

It does not work that way in New York, where smart politicians know better than to let anyone unravel the mystery of Port Authority revenue streams.

May my doubt be converted back to trust on this.

      I strenuously advise against breath-holding!

Too right. It did occur to me that New Jersey could launch a hostile take-over, because, they only collect tolls going to Manhattan; leaving is free…

Street protests in UK. PM May stood firm.

Exiting with a much better mental image than LGA.
In the Media Wars, Penske Media, which owns Women’s Wear Daily (and others) is giving Melania totally normal treatment. Excerpt of Alice Roi, designer, and collaborator, interview:
“…WWD: Is there an experience that would illustrate to people who only know Melania from photographs what she’s really like?

A.R.: At her baby shower at FAO Schwartz, what you bought went to charity and the money that you spent also went to charity…She’s almost beaming because she is such a lovely person and extremely thoughtful. She always takes time to do the right things, thank you letters…I’ve had many onversations with her about school and children. She’s really a miraculous
        person.

WWD: Do you think she will champion American design?

A.R.: I do. In the past few days even there’s sort of been a theme that a lot of people have been posting, sort of her infatuation with simplicity without making it look dowdy. Sometimes simple can mean big stupid coat, big stupid suit for a first lady. But she is meticulous, impeccable, simple and not glitzy. At home, she might wear black cigarette pants cropped, with a black shirt with a wavy peplum and black heels, a slight nod to the Fifties.
        …”

Finding the culture and fashion media battles much more interesting.
Bigger than Jackie or Princess Di.

All the more reason to re-do JFK. Back on topic!

This is a job for Preet Bharara.

Corruption. Graft. Etc. This is why Libertarians and (American) Conservatives don’t want to entrust government with any more tasks then necessary. It’s just that the Libertarians and Conservatives differ on the definition of “necessary”. The Progressives have not demonstrated any great track record of integrity or competency.

  • Andrew Allison

Do you seriously expect that the endemic corruption in NY and NJ can be overcome by anything short of revolution?

    • f1b0nacc1

Even the revolution would be corrupt…

    • Psalms564

To answer your question is: No. Not as long as rates are really low. Once the rates start going up, and people start getting squeezed, you’ll see some movement. Arithmetic will do the job of the revolution.

I always thought that purpose of Newark, which is a truly horrible airport, was to make LaGuardia look good.

I’ll take EWR over LGA any day of the week. Granted, EWR is a lot closer to me than LGA. But my record is much better in EWR.

  • CapitalHawk

I say we take off and nuke the entire Port Authority from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.
