It took 40 years to overcome this cartel. I wonder how much longer Americans will have to endure the DC-sponsored medical/insurance cartel.

    • Andrew Allison

Until single-payer is introduced. Don’t hold your breath [grin]

      • Fat_Man

How does turning a cartel into a government owned monopoly help?

        • Andrew Allison

Negotiating power, c.f. the reimbursements care providers accept from Medicare. I acknowledge the possibility that the higher prices charged private insurance may offset some of this, but if there were no private insurance, there would only be one price.

          • Brian

And when the price of providing care is below reimbusement, all services will be provided by the government (NHS,VA). Pricing/costs will be controlled by rationing. Everything will look great, as the administrators fake the paperwork to hide the dead.

          • Andrew Allison

Nope. Like so many of those who engage in discussion of health insurance and health care, you fail to grasp that single-payer insurance is not health care. The VA is a sufficient disaster that there’s no possibility of single-provider care in the US. This is not to say that it doesn’t work in the UK — as noted elsewhere in the thread, the British people love the NHS. They do so because it provides basic health care to everybody, not just the beneficiaries of taxpayer subsidized employer and ACA insurance. I suggest that you read the whole thread.

They can save money by imposing price controls, right?

OPECs best move would be in fomenting more political disorder in Venezuela, Libya, and Iraq.

  • Pete

OPEC is a collection of mostly loathsome countries. They are getting what they deserve.
