Holbrooke of Arabia?

Yes, ok, so he is a competent player in world affairs. But, let’s be absolutely clear, he is no friend of the West or of what our societies represent. He was a masterful ambassador in Washington, and he has left everyone believing otherwise — but he is by all accounts visciously anti-Israeli and very Islamic in his outlook.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend, as they say. So, in dealing with jihadists and Iran, Bandar is someone we can work with. On most other issues he is more of an adversary.

By the way, and without wishing to speak ill of the dead, is Holbrooke really all that missed in international circles? And, if so, by who?
