      Don’t underestimate a cornered rat. Cutting of gas supplies to and through Ukraine seems pretty bold.

        Referring to Putin as a cornered rat is an insult to rodents all over the world.

      I would hope so, but the war in the Ukraine probably isn’t all that expensive for the Russians as compared to their larger budget picture. Thus a decision to pull back would be driven by their strategic concerns and not purely budgetary ones, or so I assume. (Cutting a grand deal with the EU to wind down these wars and end sanctions and improve their banking and energy investment situation, etc. is something entirely different – but I do t think we are there yet.)

    I wonder just what portion of the so called Separatists are really Ukrainians and what portion are Russian troops. I understand that over 2,000 body bags have been returned to Russia, since the war began.
