Revisionism 101
China and Iran Snuggle Up

The Chinese defense minister met with the head of Iran’s navy this week in order to discuss forming closer military ties with Beijing’s fellow revisionist power. Reuters reports:

Chinese Defense Minister Chang Wanquan told Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari that the two armed forces have seen “good cooperation on mutual visits, personnel training and other fields in recent years”, China’s official Xinhua news agency reported.

“Exchanges between the two navies have been fruitful and their warships have paid successful visits to each other,” it cited Chang as saying. […]

For the first time ever, two Chinese warships docked at Iran’s Bandar Abbas port to take part in a joint naval exercises in the Gulf, Iranian state media reported on Sept. 20.

Naval cooperation between Iran and China is aimed at reinforcing Iran’s military capability in the Gulf, analysts say, as well as displaying China’s plan to exert greater influence and presence beyond East Asia.

“The (port) call reflects China’s military-to-military relationship with Iran,” said Christian Le Mière, a naval expert at the International Institute for Strategic Studies think-tank.

“It is the most explicit sign of Beijing’s acknowledgment of this relationship, which has remained relatively covert until now.”

Revisionist powers who do not accept the fundamentals of the global world order are telegraphing their disdain for the U.S. and the West in general. They are figuring out that the limits on their behavior that the West says it will enforce are not backed up by real power (until, of course, the day comes when they are).

This is all Obama’s fault. This historically weak President is encouraging strategic overreach in all the Authoritarian Countries including Russia, China, Turkey, Iran, etc… America made a terrible mistake picking its worst President in history at the same time it entered Great Depression 2.0. Depressions are known for creating horrifying wars like WWII, and it looks like a new Axis is beginning to form.

OF COURSE John McCain and Sarah Palin would have outlawed war. How on earth did citizens miss that nuance in their campaign?

Your model of democracy is primitive. Russia does not need such a model. In Russia, democracy is the power of the majority in light of the interests and opinions of the minority. In the USA all on the contrary. Your model of democracy similar to that which was in ancient Greece, when people were divided into three categories: demos, ohlos and slaves. Demos – slaveholders, and ochlos simple people without voting rights.

What? Did they get tired of their 3-way with N.Kor? Maybe they finally decided to throw N. Kor. under the bus as far as acting the go between for China and Iran, which has been going on since China watched while the US blew their brand new Soviet-made equipment to smithereens in Gulf I.

This is part of a much broader effort by Russia and China to form a new anti-Western bloc. Russia in particular is working to broaden its connections in Central and South America and the Caribbean. Presently, it has agreements with Cuba (long standing), Nicaragua and Venezuela. It is working on Argentina.

As to the Norks, a deal might be possible with the Sorks to reunify the peninsula under Seoul’s control. China would remove the Kims and their supporters and seize the nuclear material. Seoul would expel the US and align itself with China. Considering their mutual history with Japan, this is actually a much more natural alignment than the current one. It would also stabilize China’s flank and enable further adventures in the China Sea.
