Kim Jung-Un's Former Lover, 11 Others Executed By Machine Gun

Welcome to North Korea, where you can be executed by machine gun for violating pornography laws. That at least is the official reason why the former girlfriend of Kim Jung-Un, North Korea’s young leader, and 11 of her colleagues in the Unhasu Orchestra were executed this month, according to South Korean media.

Hyon Song-wol, a singer in the orchestra, is rumored to have met Kim a decade ago and to have carried on an affair with him after she married another man. She and 11 other singers, dancers, or musicians in the orchestra, which was responsible for such hits as  “I Love Pyongyang,” “She is a Discharged Soldier” and “Excellent Horse-Like Lady,” were convicted of performing sex acts on video and selling the recordings. “They were executed with machine guns while the key members of the Unhasu Orchestra, Wangjaesan Light Band and Moranbong Band as well as the families of the victims looked on,” a Chinese source told South Korea’s Chosun Ilbo newspaper.

This being North Korea, we can only speculate as to the reason why the 12 musicians were machine-gunned to death. Maybe it was because of a porn video, or maybe, as one theory goes, Kim’s wife resented the popularity of his former girlfriend. Regardless, the execution is yet another reason to shake your head at the sheer brutality of the Hermit Kingdom’s leadership.

I’m not sure which is worse – this, or the NK general that was executed by mortar round (!) not too long ago, ordered to stand in a field while his fate bore down on him.

I shake my head at the sheer naivete of whoever is writing Mr. Mead’s blogposts.
fwiw, death by state sponsored starvation
    is far more brutal.
