Same Old, Same Old in Dying Detroit
doesn’t appear to be in the cards. Mayor Dave Bing initially outlined an ambitious plan to spur economic growth and rein in government spending by channeling both the city’s population and its government services into its best neighborhoods and cutting back on services in the dead zones. It looks like the status quo is stronger than the mayor. By the time his honor got around to unveiling the actual plan, the sweeping vision was replaced by baby steps and half measures.Bad news, and not just for Detroit. The times demand rapid and in some cases radical change; the longer we delay the more it will hurt when we are finally forced to act.
