More than 110,000 participants are taking part in the third-annual Telework Week, an event hosted by the public-private partnership Mobile Work Exchange to improve awareness of the myriad benefits of teleworking. Participants have pledged to work from home at least one day this week, and the organization has seen a 55 percent increase in participation since last year.
Telework has gotten a lot of bad press lately, with Yahoo’s decision to ban telecommuting making headlines last week. But Telework Week seeks to expose the economic, environmental, work-life, and productivity benefits associated with working remotely. Mobile Work Exchange calculates the economic and environmental savings on its website here. It estimates Telework Week pledges will save about $8.3 million in real estate and commuting costs and more than 5,200 tons in pollutant emissions.
Remote work is an integral part of the operations here at Via Meadia, and we’re excited to see the movement growing so quickly. There are plenty of reasons for companies to put telework policies in place—and plenty of resources like Mobile Work Exchange that can facilitate that process.
