Barnett R. Rubin is director of studies and senior fellow at the Center on International Cooperation at New York University, chair of the Conflict Prevention and Peace Forum of the Social Science Research Council, and a director of Gulestan Ariana, Ltd., a company that manufactures essential oils in Afghanistan. He served as special adviser to the UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Afghanistan in 2001 and subsequently acted as external adviser to the UN during the drafting of the Afghan Constitution, Afghanistan Compact, and Afghanistan National Development Strategy.
