Karl W. Eikenberry is the William J. Perry Fellow in International Security at Stanford University, where he leads the U.S.-Asia Security Initiative. He is former U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan and, over the course of a 35-year career in the Army, served in numerous posts throughout Asia, including in China.
